Field Notes / device care
A practical device care routine
Small regular checks are easier than a major cleanup.
Keep room for routine work
Devices need free storage for updates and temporary files. Review large downloads and application caches using the operating system storage tools. Do not delete unfamiliar system folders. Move personal archives to an appropriate backup location before removing local copies.
Treat updates as planned maintenance
Allow time for an update when you can save your work and restart if needed. Read the device maker instructions for major changes. Keep recovery information somewhere you can access without the device, and verify that important files are backed up.
Clean gently
Disconnect power before cleaning and follow the manufacturer guidance. Use a soft dry cloth for ordinary dust, keep liquids away from openings, and avoid abrasive products. If a device becomes unusually hot or its battery changes shape, stop using it and seek qualified help.
